Hawksley Workman - We Will Still Need A Song
This is my music video pick of the day! The song is fantastic, obviously, but the video lifts it to a different level. Seeming initially like a lighthearted romp, as Hawksley runs around stealing various instruments and loading them into a truck, it shifts suddenly at the end when you realize he’s loading them all onto an ark - as the song fades out, he holds out a hand to catch the first raindrop.
Suddenly, the entire video is thrown into a new light. The scene where Hawksley peers sadly through the window of a closed antique shop at an accordion stops being funny and starts being heartbreaking when you realize it means that there won’t even be accordions again.
I suspect I’m not the only one here who loves the idea that, in a modern day Noah’s Ark scenario, music is the thing that gets saved.
