Expectations were pretty high on the release of Metric’s new stuff this spring. Over on Facebook, people thought it was “meh”. On CBC Music, it was most added to playlists. What do you think: is this Metric holding steady, moving forward or taking a step back?

It’s a pretty rare occasion when a song drops out of the number one spot on our Top 30 only to regain that position a few weeks later. In fact, it’s only happened twice before in the six year history of the chart. PS I Love You now join that rarefied club.

Their track “Sentimental Dishes” was number one five weeks ago, but their buzz has only been building - with a full album roll out and all - so back up the chart they come.

Like the many guitar wielding troubadours before him (think Springsteen or Earle), Leeroy Stagger’s evocative and clear lyricism drives “Dirty Windshields”, with the riffs and toe-taping beat riding shotgun.

There are well over 100,000 songs that you can listen to right now on CBC Music. That makes it all the more impresive when one rises above the rest to be the most played on demand.

Now get this: Feist has the top three songs most played on demand over the past week on CBC Music:

1. “The Bad In Each Other

2. “1 2 3 4

3. “How Come You Never Go There

Domination.

Sometimes love is just a temporary infatuation, while other times it’s built to last.

Even though it’s only been on our top 30 chart for 2 weeks, Brasstronaut’s “Mean Sun” is already the most thumbed up song on CBC Music. Love’s first blush.

And Brasstronaut has also garnered the most new fans over the past week, people who want to stay connected to the band and find out about their new songs and concert listings. And that means commitment.

Here’s something we can all agree on: Wintersleep’s “In Came The Flood” is one of the best Canadian indie rock songs out there right now. We all agree because while the song is number one on our Top 30, it’s also in the top 5 of your songs most added to playlists and most played on demand.

Now, if we could only agree on what to call the CBC Music pet ferret…

Let’s go through a check list of what makes a great Metric track: Does it have heavy synth keyboards? Check. Megaton drums? Check. Emily Haines’ seductive and confronting vocals? Double Check.

“Youth Without Youth” is a fun and foreboding synthrock track that’ll get everyone from the eyeliner-crowd to the frat house swaying in the black light.
